Another good reason to prune your tree/trees is to reduce weighty limbs which are susceptible to damage from wind or just weight alone. Sensible pruning also helps minimise damage from high winds and storms by maintaining your trees.
- Formative pruning – Pruning is the selective removal of potentially hazardous or obstructive branches, or to enhance the aesthetic appearance of the tree.
- Tree Pollarding – Pollarding is a pruning system in which the upper branches of a tree are removed, promoting a dense head of foliage and branches. It is practised primarily to maintain trees at a predetermined height.
- Crown Thinning – Crown thinning is the selective removal of stems and branches to increase light penetration and air movement through the crown of a tree.
- Crown reduction – Crown reduction is the shortening of the height and breadth of a tree whilst preserving its natural crown shape
- Crown Lifting – Crown lifting is where up to a third of the lower crown of the tree is removed, to provide clearance over a road or pavement or to reduce unwanted shade.
